About the project

This project has been funded by a grant awarded to Loughborough University from the UK Government Office for Science. Running until mid October 2014, this project will deliver 2 reports (one on existing standards and one on recommendations for action) as well as setting up a steering committee and working group to ensure recommendations from the Foresight Report can be fully explored.




Project Team

Prof Alistair Milne

Professor Alistair Milne, Loughborough University

Alistair Milne joined the School of Business and Economics in July 2011 as Professor of Financial Economics. In recent years his principal research has been on bank balance sheet management and regulation, and its relationship to banking performance, monetary transmission and financial stability; and on the network economics of financial infrastructure, including retail payments and securities and derivatives clearing and settlement.



Kevin Houstoun

Kevin Houstoun, Chairman, Rapid Addition

Kevin was one of the lead experts for the Foresight Report on "The Future of Computer Trading in Financial Markets" and has over 20 years experience of working within financial markets technology. Kevin helped to establish the FIX protocol in Europe and his first FIX engine was given away as a learning aid that helped many enterprises further their knowledge of FIX. Kevin is the designer of the FIX Repository for FIX Protocol Limited, he has led the Global Technical Committee and was an active member of the Global Steering Committee until December 2013. Since April 2014, Kevin has been a Visiting Fellow in the School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University.



Dr Paul Parboteeah

Dr Paul Parboteeah, Loughborough University

Paul is a Research Associate in the Centre for Post Crisis Finance and currently researches the role knowledge management can play in the wholesale financial services, particularly around standards setting and creating a common language. Paul completed his BSc (Hons) in Computing and Management and his PhD in Information Science, both from Loughborough University.
